Organic Suspension Stability
Interparticle interactions control the stability of particulate dispersions. While early work in colloid science focused on non-aqueous solvents, recent work has focused predominantly on aqueous dispersions due to development of theory, a push toward low VOC solvents, and interest in biological systems. Dow has recently funded two new projects in CFE in the general area of Organic Suspension Stability. These projects will focus on fundamental aspects of the important area of colloidal stability in non-aqueous fluids. Six CFE faculty (Prieve, Walker, Sides, Anna, Schneider and Khair) are involved. Our part of the work will be to study characterization techniques for stability in organic media.
